In a month’s time Coleen Rooney will hit a major milestone as she turns 40. But the TV star and wife of former footballer Wayne, certainly doesn’t sound worried about the ageing process or missing her youth.
“I’m looking forward to it,” she says. “I love a birthday and a celebration. I have decided to enjoy a couple of different celebrations with family and friends over the year and with my birthday falling over easter weekend, some friends are away so any opportunity to extend the celebrations!”
Family is always at the centre of Coleen’s life and the forefront of her mind, and a lot of her time is still spent like many mums, taking the boys to school and friends’ houses and football matches,
- Ruth Langsford’s friend begged her to have therapy following split from Eamonn Holmes
- Kai Rooney’s true colours clear for all to see as Coleen speaks out about son at Man Utd
She is a proud mother to Cass, eight, Kit, ten, Klay 12 and Kai, 16 and she says she tries to let them live their own lives and doesn’t offer them too much advice. “Wayne and I have always wanted the boys to have good manners and be kind. They all have different personalities and are growing up so quickly, but for us, we just want the boys to work hard and be happy.”
All four enjoy playing football like dad Wayne and eldest Kai is now following in his footsteps playing at Manchester United in their Under 18s team.
Whilst Wayne got his fair share of injuries and setbacks in a long career, Coleen says watching him is nothing compared to her little ones.
“I definitely get more nervous watching the boys but i do enjoy watching them,” she tells OK! magazine. “I try to make every match, but sometimes i can’t make them all – I’ll check the scores or keep an eye on the what’s app groups to see how they get on.”
Although Coleen is now busy planning her some big parties for her 40th, she is speaking to OK! at her most recent event, which was a more calm affair.
Situated at Colshaw Hall, Cheshire there was not a glass of champagne in sight as this lunchtime event on February 25 was all about health and fitness, with Coleen launching a new Applied Nutrition product.
Coleen, who is a brand ambassador for the brand, and other WAGs including Lisa Carrick, wife of Manchester United manager Michael, Tanya Bardsley, Georgina Cleverly, and pregnant Annie Kilner the wife of Kyle Walker, enjoyed lunch and a pilates class. Although Annie’s bump meant she had to sit the class out.
Coleen says: “I have been doing reformer pilates for years now and that has really helped my overall strength and muscle tone. I love swimming but i don’t always enjoy going to the gym, however I do train twice a week and do a mixture of cardio, weight training and overall body conditioning.
“Unfortunately i haven’t been able to do that for a few months since I broke my foot!
Asked how she stays young and looks much younger than 40, Coleen says simply: “Consistency! that’s what works for me. I have my routine and will make sure I keep as consistent as i can – whether i am at home, on holiday, working – I always do my squats in the shower, I have my Applied Nutrition collagen every morning and try to drink plenty of water. it’s just become part of my daily routine.”
The other thing that is consistent in Coleen’s life is finding time to go out with Wayne. The pair have worked hard at their relationship over the years and seem to be more content than ever.
“We always try to do something once a fortnight if we can. That might be grabbing a bite to eat, going out with friends, watching a movie or series together,” Coleen says. “It’s not always easy with us both working, running around after the boys, but we do try to make time for each other when we can. It’s important to still do things together.”
The pair recently appeared on Wayne’s BBC podcast together, but Coleen isn’t sure she wants her own podcast show just yet. With a laugh she says, “At the moment I’ve got plenty of things keeping me busy.”
Wayne is not currently in football management, so the pair were last apart for a long period of time when Coleen went into the Australian jungle for three weeks.
As the last female standing in the I’m A Celebrity jungle at the end of 2024, Coleen could claim to be a honorary queen of the camp, even if she lost out in the final to Danny Jones who was crowned the winner.
And at the start of February this year, Coleen found herself alongside a real life king, at an event organised for carers at Windsor Castle, where she met King Charles.
She wore a cream pinstripe blazer teamed with matching tailored trousers and curtsied for the monarch. Coleen is well known for supporting care-related causes, including Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. She has spoken emotionally in the past about her family’s experience with foster care, specifically regarding her late sister Rosie.
“I had a really lovely evening and met a lot of amazing people. I have actually been to Windsor castle before, not as a guest though as a tourist, i took my kids after we had been to legoland. My younger boys were impressed that I got to meet the king.”
Asked for her impressions of Windsor Castle she adds: “It’s beautiful. i don’t really know what i was expecting of the evening but it was such a wonderful event to be invited to, celebrating our carers and the fantastic work they do.”
They might not be in a castle, but there is no doubt Coleen will have a Birthday party fit for royalty next month. Wayne and the boys will make sure of that.
* Coleen Rooney was launching her Debloat Capsules which will be available at over 490+ Boots stores throughout the UK from April 13. The Coleen Rooney x Applied Nutrition complete product range is also available in Holland & Barrett stores nationwide across the UK.
